August Investments Pty Limited is a private company providing a green and "ethical" investment portfolio for its shareholders.

This website is for the information of August Investments shareholders.  As a private company we are not able to seek investments from the public.  Those seeking general information on ethical investment, please use this link to responsible investment information.

Company Background

August Investments introduced "ethical investment" and "green investment" management to Australia. The company was formed in 1981 to provide a general investment service to its shareholders with part of its funds supporting environmental and socially responsible business ventures. Within a short time its investment activities evolved so that the substantial portion of assets were invested in environmental and socially responsible areas.

We have been credited as the first private investment organisation worldwide to approach investments using positive selection criteria (such as investing in reforestation), as opposed to the previous overseas practice of using negative selection criteria (such as not investing in uranium mining). Our charter has subsequently been used by a number of ethical investment organisations.

August Investments has provided the seed capital for a number of start up green investment organisations. It was responsible in 1986 for the formation of Australia's first public investment management company with a public investment trust dedicated solely to ethical and green investment. This management company, now called Australian Ethical Investment Ltd and managed separately, has total funds under management in excess of $600 million. August Investments has also established the Earthcare Fund, a revolving loan fund, and EcoForest Limited, a reforestation company.

We aim to provide you, our shareholders, with both dividends and capital growth. Capital growth varies from year to year (see Financial Summary). It is company policy to provide shareholders with a dividend equal to the current inflation rate based on the Australian Consumer Price Index and the value of each share in the company at the time the dividend is paid. Dividends are paid twice yearly in June and December. The company has substantial profit reserves to cover the payment of dividends to you, even if there were to be short-term profit fluctuations.
